As a fast-paced life science company, Albumedix is expanding, and we’re looking for a Fermentation Science Manager to join our Technical Support Group and manage upstream technical support activities for biopharmaceutical manufacturing and to generate albumin-based products at a laboratory scale.
This position is vital to ensure existing, and new products are transferred, implemented and manufactured in a robust, compliant, timely and cost-effective fashion. This exciting role will appeal to you if you’re analytical and keen to manage technical support and implement process improvements to a large-scale biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility.
Your competencies will include the ability to solve problems and to develop and implement optimal solutions. It is important that you are flexible and able to respond and adapt to varied situations whilst remaining effective in meeting the changing requirements of the work. A necessity to prioritize between large-scale support and small-scale production is essential. You’ll need to have the capacity to work collaboratively and supportively with colleagues and be an effective communicator, as the role will include management of a small team and interaction with colleagues across the business. A sense of humour will be welcomed – we work hard here and take the work, but not ourselves, too seriously!

The role will be based in our newly renovated state-of-the-art laboratories located on the Albumedix Campus in Nottingham.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• People management of Fermentation team members
• Provide technical support for biopharmaceutical manufacturing with expert analysis of upstream process steps (shake-flask, seeds, main fermenter, cell separation).
• Perform and/or direct formal investigations of non-routine events or deviations raised through the Albumedix Quality systems. Report writing, identification and implementation of appropriate corrective actions.
• Perform and/or direct the trending and review of batch process data and contribute to continued process verification.
• Identification of process optimisation activities, perform scale down studies at 10L scale, and management of their implementation at a large scale.
• Investigation and recommendation of new technologies for use in upstream processes.
• Support technology transfer projects for cGMP manufacturing to other sites.
• Input into the design of a new 250L-300L scale TG fermenter for future enhanced service projects.
QUALIFICATIONS AND PROFILE
To be successful in your application to this exciting opportunity, we’re looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree level education in a Life Sciences field, biochemical/chemical engineering or related discipline, with relevant fermentation/microbiology industrial experience.
• Preferably, a PhD with at least 5 years’ experience or MSc with at least 10 years’ experience.
• Experience working with microbial expression systems and physiology is desired.
